Accelerated Reader
AR is a school-wide program that students use to find out their reading range and read books on their reading level or above. At the end of each month students take the STAR reading test which is mainly vocabulary word recognition to determine their reading range. Students are allowed to read books from home or books in my class within their reading range or above their range. After they finish a book, they can take a multiple choice quiz on it to earn points (only in school, the testing is not accessible at home). At the end of each marking period, the goal is for students to read at least 3 books within their reading range with an 80% of higher on the quiz and an 80% overall average.
If you are interested in bringing in books from home and are not sure if they are AR, you can click the link here to search for the book. It will give you the points the book is worth and the reading range (your child should know their reading range at this point in the year).
