    FAQ's (more coming soon)

    1) Grading System?

    90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 55-59 F

    2) Report Cards?

Report cards are distributed 4 times each year, 1 per marking period. Interims come out 3 weeks before report cards as a head's up on grades, homework, attendance. At the end of each marking period we have an award ceremony for Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll (A's and B's), Distinguished Honor Roll (all A's). Students CANNOT earn Honor Roll or Distinguished Honor Roll if they receive an N (needs improvement) in school citizenship, study skills (assignment completion) or in their specials classes.

    3) Homework Policy?

I usually give Math homework Mon-Thursdays and Science to study on testing days. I normally do not give homework over the weekend. If a student forgets their homework or does not complete it, they have the following day to turn it in for half credit. After the following day it is not accepted. If your child is absent from school that's a different scenario and doesn't count against them. They are responsible for making up class work assignments and they can do this during the WIN period.

    4) If I am going on vacation, can I have student work in advance?

I plan my lessons on a weekly basis and complete plans on Friday for the following week. I would prefer your child to make up the work when they return to school as I do not plan my lessons so far in advance. This is what the WIN period is designed for. This way I can instruct and work with them on what was missed. The district policy is they have as many days out to make up the work. If your child is out for 3 days, they have 3 days to make up the work, etc.

    5) If my child is involved in Band, Chorus, etc how much of class time are they missing?

Usually they are pulled from Chorus during WIN. Band differs as their times change each week so they are not pulled during the same subject. They miss 40 minutes of class but are responsible for making up work during WIN or returning to class. Any questions regarding their band schedule and instruments should be directed to Mr. Cino pcino@pemb.org

    6) Field Trips?

Unfortunately the fifth grades are not going to the McGuire Airforce Base this year. Future Field Trip pending...

    7) If I have to pull my child out of school early in the afternoon what would be the best time?

I normally wrap up Science at 3:30. The safeties get packed up first to go to their posts by 3:35/3:40 the latest. Then the rest of the class does their jobs, packs up and we have dismissal at 3:45 when buses are highlighted on the smartboard.

    8) My child has a change of transportation, should I contact you or the office?

I would always call the office first in case I am absent from school. This way my substitute is notified. A few years ago we had students taking it upon themselves to change their mode of transportation to go home with friends instead of asking parents. This is a huge no. They need a note from a parent if they are carpooling with another student that afternoon. Also please refrain from dojo messaging during dismissal with transportation changes because I am not able to check my phone. I am standing in the door way to monitor the halls and my class for dismissal. I will not be able to receive it in time. Again calling the office is your best bet.
